That’s Stine grower Kevin Burton’s motto.
Kevin has a family farm near Rochester, Indiana; an operation that started with his father, Dennis, in the 1980s and has since grown to include Dennis’ wife, Linda, and their two sons, Scott and Kevin. In 2014, the Burtons decided to go all in and choose Stine HP Twin 20s for their entire farm operation for the 2015 season — all 1,000 acres of corn and 300 acres of soybeans.
For Kevin and his family, the transition to Twin 20s was a big change, but one they felt they needed to give 100 percent if they were going to make it succeed. This included making the move to HP corn® hybrids, which has improved yields by 15 percent.
“I feel HP Corn® is the way of the future.
I think it’s going to change a lot of people’s perspectives. But it all starts with the mental change, and people have got to be willing to accept that maybe what they’re doing isn’t the best out there and that there are always new things coming out and new ways. Things have to change in order to improve operations. You can’t just keep doing what you’re doing. I think that this is the path to 300-bushel corn, and I think it’s the way of the future to feed the world.”
The Burtons have been Stine dealers for the past four years, but they’ve also been dedicated customers who have chosen Stine in their own fields for over two decades. A choice they make because of Stine’s high-yielding genetics and dedication to supporting all growers, big and small.
“I choose Stine because of the family background. It started as a family business, and we’re a family business. I like working with other families and supporting the smaller businesses out there, and they’re supporting us. It doesn’t matter if we’re a small farm or a big farm — they take care of us just the same as if we were one of the bigger farms in the area. And the genetic selection that they have — they’re at the top end of the breeding program and bringing out the newest genetics. Everything they’re doing logically just makes sense with the technology and the way things are going. I think they’re heading in the right direction for the future.”
